Also, to offer the unemployed an opportunity for retraining for a new profession. Last but not least the college will offer employees of other software and industry companies to learn the latest developements in their profession. Because the lifecycle of a software is quite short it is necessary to constantly be brought up to the latest level of "state-of-the art". In addition the future will bring an expansion of the software industry requiring existing software firms just to adjust to the expanded demands of the marketplace.

But why place such an institution in the former State Boardingschool of Putbus?

The former "Royal Paedagogium of Putbus" (since 1919 a State Boardingschool) was founded in 1836 by Wilhelm Malte Prince of Putbus with the aim to further education. From the start the school was planned as a place where students from the entire region, -beyond Ruegen-, from most of Pommerania would be offered higher education. Therefore it included a boarding facility, a gymnasium and all needed facilities. Once current buildings are restored it would be an ideal place for the IT College Putbus. Because of this important tradition the school was and is widely known troughout Germany. For a long time the former Paedagogium of Putbus has been, after the University of Greifswald, the foremost institution of higher learning in this region.

Another important aspect is social responsibility for the maintenance of a building of such art-historical importance. The entire complex was designed and built in the 19th century in the style of classicism.
After many years of neglect, a foundation has now been established to use the buildings for the IT College. This will prevent the buildings from total deterioration. In addition, the visions Prince Malte of Putbus had should be revived. His aim to offer an institution of higher education that has benefical influence on the region's economy, is today the purpose of the State-Boardingschool-Association ("Förderverein Fürstliches Pädagogium zu Putbus e.V.").
